Alexandra Levits Water Cooler Wisdom Why Boomers Make Better Business Owners

Alexandra Levit's Water Cooler Wisdom Why Boomers Make Better Business Owners A study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation reported that the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity over the last few years is not Gen-Y upstarts, but Baby Boomers in the 55-64 year age group. In fact, Boomers are actually driving a new entrepreneurship boom as they retire from their traditional corporate jobs and seek more meaningful sources of work. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 60 percent of the country’s workforce is currently made up of senior employees, but long-term employment has fallen dramatically for people ages 35-64. Since the first Internet-era recession, transaction costs and barriers to entry have fallen for entrepreneurs of every age. And with longer life expectancies and greater health in later life, older generations are starting new firms and mentoring young entrepreneurs in record numbers. According to Jeff Mariola, the Boomer CEO of online marketing firm Digital Brandworks, Boomers are also more likely to succeed as entrepreneurs. When I asked Jeff why this was the case, he provided four compelling reasons. Greater emotional intelligence The rapid growth and constant change environment inherent in a start-up business requires steady and consistent leadership. Boomer CEOs have worked through countless change management initiatives over the years. They can provide their coworkers with the guidance, inspiration and motivation required to get everyone focused on the vision of the business while acknowledging that the road to get there will naturally be filled with anxiety, fear and exhilaration. Letting the Boys Be Boys

Letting the Boys Be Boys Hi. My name is Lauren and Im an idiot. Let me take it back a step- For a while, I was dating someone. And then, I was not dating someone. While there were multiple factors, to my disappointment, it seemed that for the most part we just argued too much to stay together. I didnt understand why we argued so much. Normally, Im not the argumentative type. But with guy, we just baby bickered all the time. Little things. It was exhausting. And since most of the bickering spawned from me (Why do you do that? Could you please do this? Be more ___.), it was even more exhausting for him. Thus, ending our relationship. Now back to the present- When doing some research for this column, I asked my roommate being a guy, what he thought was an important topic to cover. He gave me an earful. One thing he said really stood out: I think one of the most annoying things in a relationship is when someone tries to change the other person, or try to make them into someone else. You should just like someone for them. If you dont like them for who they are, you probably shouldnt be dating. Ohmygosh. Light bulb. With all of my bickering and pestering, I had been trying to change my guy. Damn it. Through trials and tribulations of relationships past, I thought I learned and knew what I needed in a partner. So I tried to groom guy to meet my lofty ideal. All the while, missing out on the perfectly great person in front of me.  The person that I wanted to date in the first place. How terrible! Sure, there are always little things like Can you not pop your gum? but grooming your guy or finding a diamond in the rough like so many girls I know pride themselves on, in my opinion just isnt right. You should like your person just for being your person and if not, like the roomie says, maybe you shouldnt be together. So what do you think? Do you have a diamond in the rough? Did you groom your man? Not until talking to my roommate did i realize what I had done. Have you done it to? Or will you just let boys be boys? Lets talk. Happy Thursday yall! And guy- Im sorry. Youre great just the way you are.

Writing a Curriculum Plan for a Class

Writing a Curriculum Plan for a ClassThere are tons of reasons why an IT teacher should write a CTE lesson plan. Of course, the main one is that it's a way to keep track of all the information you have in your class for a whole year. The other reason for writing a lesson plan is to ensure that students continue to be able to continue learning while they are not in class.Writing a curriculum plan can be stressful and time consuming, but once you get started, you'll find that it's less of a chore and more of a pleasure. In fact, I really think that writing a CTE lesson plan is more fun than working in an actual classroom. It's also more productive, as you can organize and structure the material you need to teach with the lessons and assignments on paper.Once you're ready to start writing a CTE lesson plan, the first thing you need to do is determine what subject area you'll be teaching. Although you could start at the beginning and review each week, I'd highly recommend starting off wi th a lesson plan that covers the core material in the class. By doing this, you'll be able to provide a greater amount of information for your students to understand.Once you've decided on what subject area you're going to be teaching, the next step is to find a teacher resource to use for brainstorming topics for the CTE. You may want to search for a teacher resume and CTE sample lists. You can also visit your local library and find resources like these. They can help you decide which subjects to cover and how many topics you need to cover. After you've decided on topics, it's time to write the curriculum plan. Again, I'd highly recommend using a teacher resume and CTE sample list as a jumping off point. By brainstorming topics and organizing the material in your curriculum plan, you can ensure that the material stays fresh and relevant. By writing your curriculum plan, you're also giving yourself the opportunity to add extra material to the plan for easy reference. After you've deci ded on a new topic for your plan, you should make sure that you write each lesson on your curriculum plan in detail. Don't forget to include any supplemental materials, such as handouts, projects, or tests that you need to use in the classroom. Don't forget to use your lesson plan as a guide to help you organize the class. If you were the teacher of a class like English literature, you could go through the lessons one by one and break them down into chapters. Finally, you should include a couple of good examples of your CTE, as well as one of your lesson plans. These will be valuable references for people who are looking to hire you. There's nothing worse than hiring someone, only to learn that the person you're hiring was not good enough to write a CTE for your class.By now, you should have a much better idea of how to write a CTE. Whether you're a teacher looking to add an extra skill to your resume or someone who's looking to write a curriculum plan, writing a CTE lesson plan is o ne of the best ways to become a teacher.

The Best Career Comeback Ever At The Masters 2019 - Jane Jackson Career

The Best Career Comeback Ever At The Masters 2019 - Jane Jackson Career You are never too old to make a career comeback.I woke up early on a cool April morning to watch Tiger Woods make his spectacular career comeback at the 2019 Masters Open Golf Championship. When he sank that final putt, the look on his face of pure joy, relief and emotion was a wonderful thing to see.The delight on the face of his caddy, and then the huge hugs he gave his children, mother and partner and then friends and colleagues was special to watch.Having been a huge fan of Tigers for many years until his fall from grace about 10 years ago, after which I missed the magic he would weave when walking up the final fairway of most championships, I am so impressed at how he has turned his life, and career, around.People do fall from grace, but Tigers fall was so public and so spectacular that I found it uncomfortable to watch. Many years later, all through the disappointments, physical injuries, back operations and personal challenges, this Masters win, is phenomenal. After 11 years wor king his way back to grace, Tiger has shown how grit, determination, mental toughness, resilience and persistence pays off. And time heals all wounds. The public has forgiven him. He is a changed man, and he has shown a strength of character that is admirable. So, for all of you who think that your personal and professional challenges are too hard, please keep going.Don’t use the phrases of being too old, too ashamed, too injured, too tired, too fed up, too many things going against you, to stop you from dedicating yourself to being the best version of who you can be in your career and in your life.We all go through tough stuff in our lives, but it’s how we make a comeback that counts in the end. It shows character. There may be times when it feels like the world is against you, but if you believe in yourself and you put in the WORK, you may just get to where you want to be.Whether you think you can, or you think you cant, youre right.
